Pentru a ne face propriul font, putem folosi un program numit FontForge, însă acesta e mai complicat decât ce avem noi nevoie, așa că vom folosi unul mai simplu, pe care îl vom găsi pe un website numit Calligraphr.

Atunci când intrăm pe website-ul Calligraphr, trebuie să apăsăm pe butonul de LOG IN, apoi ne vom face un cont apăsând pe Register for free, introducând datele de email și creând o parolă, cu acordul părinților.

Nepoate, eu îți dau acordul să îmi folosești email-ul, chiar dacă nu știu ce e ăla, dar dacă te ajută măcar să scrii frumos, atunci nu am nimic împotrivă!

După ce ne-am creat contul, trebuie să intrăm pe email și să confirmăm adresa, apăsând pe butonul Activate your account.

Odată ce contul e activat, vom apăsa pe butonul START APP, care ne va arăta ce trebuie să facem pentru a crea fontul nostru. Noi vom apăsa pe Create a template.

Din partea stângă vom apăsa pe Minimal English, buton care va pregăti literele principale și unele simboluri importante.

Pentru că vom avea nevoie și de cifre în jocul nostru, pentru a arăta punctajul, le vom adăuga apăsând pe butonul Arbitrary characters, ceea ce va deschide o fereastră nouă în care putem scrie câte o cifră în căsuța de text. Le vom adăuga pe rând apăsând pe butonul ADD până ce le vom fi adăugat pe toate. Mai putem adăuga și diacriticele, adică literele ă â î ș ț, la fel ca și cum am adăugat cifrele, precum și alte simboluri care ne plac.

Odată ce am adăugat toate caracterele de care avem nevoie, vom închide fereastra și vom apăsa pe butonul Download Template. Pentru că va trebui să desenăm noi caracterele pe care le-am ales, putem să le facem ori pe calculator, în GIMP, ca și cum am desenat fața personajului, sau putem să printăm foaia pentru a le desena. Dacă vreți să le desenați în GIMP, veți selecta PNG, iar dacă vreți să le printați pe foaie, veți selecta PDF, apoi veți apăsa pe butonul DOWNLOAD, și apoi pe numele fișierului.

Dacă am descărcat varianta pentru desenat pe calculator, vom deschide zip-ul și vom copia fișierele într-un alt folder, apoi o vom deschide pe prima în GIMP, trăgând-o din folder în zona goală din mijlocul ferestrei. Pentru cei care veți desena pe hârtie, trebuie să printați foaia cu ajutorul părinților, iar când terminați de desenat caracterele va trebui să scanați foaia pentru a o încărca înapoi în Calligraphr.

Dacă ne apropiem de imagine, vom vedea că fiecare căsuță are caracterul corespondent deasupra ei, iar în căsuță sunt 4 liniuțe: prima liniuță e înălțimea maximă a unei litere mari, spațiul deasupra liniei fiind pentru diacritice.

A doua liniuță e înălțimea maximă a unei litere mici, adică litere precum a sau m.

A treia liniuță e pentru baza caracterelor.

Iar cea de-a patra e maxima înalțime la care pot coborî litere precum g și p.

Înainte de a desena fiecare caracter, ar fi indicat să facem un Layer nou pentru fiecare literă, denumindu-le după litera pe care o vom desena.

Și le vom pune în Layer Groups pentru fiecare set de caractere. Pe prima pagină vom avea !"',.:;?, 0-9, A-Z și a-p.

După ce terminăm de desenat, vom salva fișierul GIMP de la Save As... și de la Export As..., apoi vom deschide următoarea pagină pentru a termina cu setul de litere p-z.

Nepoate, am reușit să desenez și eu literele! Ale mele arată ca și niște hieroglife antice! Nu tare înțelegi ce scrie, dar le poți admira în timp ce te întrebi "Oare ce a vrut să spună autorul?..."

Acum că avem cele două pagini completate, trebuie să mergem înapoi la Calligraphr și să apăsăm pe butonul My Fonts,

Iar apoi pe butonul Upload Template,

Și, în fereastra care se va deschide, vom încărca prima dată fișierul 1, apoi pe numărul 2, și vom apăsa pe UPLOAD TEMPLATE, iar apoi pe ADD CHARACTERS TO YOUR FONT.

În următoarea pagină vom vedea toate caracterele noastre, iar dacă toate sunt corecte, vom apăsa pe Build Font, unde putem schimba numele fișierului înainte de a apăsa pe Download font files.

Vom alege fișierul .ttf pentru că e compatibil cu mai multe programe, inclusiv GDevelop, programul de făcut jocuri pe care îl vom prezenta în episodul următor. Așa că, gata, Bunicule! Am terminat cu font-ul!

Once we've made our account, we need to open the email and confirm the address by pressing on Activate your account.

From the left we need to pick Minimal English, which will bring up some important letters and symbols.

Because we will need numbers in our game too, in order to display scores, we will add the digits to our font by pressing on Arbitrary characters, which will open a new window with a text box. We will write each digit individually and press ADD until we add all of them. You can also add any special symbols you may want to draw if you would like.

Once we've added all the characters we need, we can close the window and click on Download Template. Because we will be drawing the characters for our font, we can draw them on the computer, in GIMP, just like with the character's face, or we can print it on a piece of paper. If you want to draw in GIMP, you will pick PNG and, if you want to print it, you will pick PDF. After that, you can click on DOWNLOAD and then on the file's name.

If you've chosen the option to draw on your computer, you need to open the zip file and copy the files inside to another folder, after which we will open the first file in GIMP, dragging it into the empty space in the middle of the screen. For those of you who have chosen to draw on paper, you need to print it out with the help of your parents and scan the pages once you're done drawing so we can upload it back into Calligraphr.

If you zoom in on the image, you will see that each cell has the character that corresponds to it above it, as well as four lines inside the cell: the first one is the maximum height of a capital letter, the space above it being reserved for a kind of special characters.

The second line is the maximum height of a lowercase letter like a or m.

The third line is the baseline for all characters,

And the last one is the lowest height you're supposed to go down to with letters like g or p.

Before drawing every character, it would be best to make a layer for every letter, naming them accordingly.

We should also put the layers into Layer Groups for each set of letters. On the first page we will have !"',.:;?, 0-9, A-Z and a-p.
